Islio
File shelf

Put files down.
Pick them up later.

A file shelf at your Mac notch gives you a place to hold files between windows. Drop them into Islio, find the destination, then drag them out when you are ready.

A useful pause between two windows

Imagine sending several documents from Finder into a message. You have the files ready, but the conversation is behind another window. The shelf lets you separate those steps: collect the files first, then bring the destination forward.

Drag a file toward the notch and choose Shelf from the drop targets. Later, open the Shelf section and drag the item into a compatible destination, such as a folder, an email attachment area or a messaging app. The destination app decides which file types it accepts.

Move several items in one gesture

  1. After setting up Islio, drag a sample file from Finder toward the notch.
  2. Drop on the highlighted Shelf destination. The highlighted target determines the action.
  3. Switch to the window where you want the file.
  4. Open the shelf and drag the file out. To send several together, Command-click the items you want before dragging.

Shelf items survive an app restart. Use the shelf as a working space; keep your important files in their normal folders and backups.

More destinations at the same notch

The drop panel has seven destinations: Shelf, Convert, ZIP, OCR, Print, Mail and AirDrop. Choose Shelf when you only want to hold a file. The other targets perform their named action, with supported inputs depending on the action.

For example, use Convert when you need another format, ZIP to package files, or OCR to extract text. Conversion and text recognition happen on your Mac. Mail and AirDrop use their respective sharing flows, where you choose a recipient.

A place for the results, too

The shelf also brings together files produced by other Islio features. A recorded voice memo lands there, where you can listen to it and drag it into another app. Converted files appear on the shelf so you can use the result without searching through Finder.

For copied words and links, use clipboard history instead. Text history and the file shelf solve different parts of the same task: collecting what you need while keeping the destination window available.

Check the fit with your daily apps

Try a document, an image and a multi-file drop into the apps you actually use. Islio runs on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later. The 3-day trial includes the shelf and all other features, so you can check your workflow before buying.
